HOMEMADE MARINARA SAUCE (MADE FROM STUFF IN YOUR PANTRY)
This marinara sauce is easy, delicious, and uses stuff from your pantry. It's good in a pinch, perfect for a plan, and a favorite of mine, especially for Eggplant Parmigiana. Plus, it's really versatile and perfect to adapt to your own likes.
1/2cupchopped bell pepper(omit if bell peppers aren't your thing)
2clovesgarlic(or 1/2 Tbsp. minced garlic)
2cans (14.5 oz.)petite diced tomatoes
2cans (8 oz.)tomato sauce
2tspdried basil(or 2 Tbsp. fresh basil)
1 tspdried oregano(or 1 Tbsp. fresh oregano)
1/2tspsalt
1/4tsppepper
Instructions
In a large saucepot or small slow cooker, combine all ingredients and allow to simmer for at least 30 minutes. I like to make this in the morning and allow it to cook on low all day in the slow cooker. The longer it cooks, the better it tastes.
Notes
If you don't like chunks, I'd combine the ingredients in the blender first and blend until smooth, then allow to simmer until you need it.For extra flavor, you can add a pork bone . Maybe you had pork chops earlier in the week, just save a bone or two and allow it to simmer with your sauce for extra flavor.
