Maybe you’re like me and you’ve tried to make homemade tortillas….a lot only to fail. Maybe you’ve never tried making them at home, but you do love those take and bake tortillas Costco sells. I’ve tried making tortillas several times over the last 10 years always to find that they were shaped like amoebas and didn’t taste good…until I found this recipe and watched a few YouTube videos about how to successfully roll ROUND tortillas and BINGO! 12 Delicious tortillas that taste totally authentic. But here’s why you’re going to love them…they cost under $1 to make and took about 20 minutes with no special ingredients, kitchen tools, or wait times. They are literally the simplest, best tasting tortilla around. But I’m going to give you a solid warning, when you try these you’ll vow never to buy tortillas again, that’s how good they are.

4 Ingredient Tortillas that Taste Authentic
Ingredients
- 4 cups flour (half white and half whole wheat works well)
- 1/2 tbsp salt
- 1 2/3 cups very hot water
- 1/4 cup oil
Instructions
- In a large bowl mix together flour and salt.
- Add water and oil. Note: the water should be as hot as your fingers can handle, but shouldn't be boiling--this is the crucialto making these tortillas!
- Mix the dough together first using a spoon until a soft dough forms and then switch to your hands. (If the dough is too sticky add more flour 1 tablespoon at a time or if it's too dry add water 1 teaspoon at a time) The consistency should be that of a soft play-doh.
- Remove dough to a floured surface and knead with your hands 10 times, or until it's smooth all over.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion in flour and flatten to the shape of a hockey puck. Cover with a towel to keep them from drying out while you roll.
- Heat a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat. (I like to use an electric skillet, but it isn't necessary).
- Roll tortilla dough into an 8-inch circle (about the size of a small dinner plate). The trick to rolling it into a circle is to always roll from the center out and be sure your rolling pin always goes off the edge so you don't get thick edges.
- Cook tortilla for about 1 minute and then flip it once and continue cooking for an additional 30 seconds. (I like to roll and cook at the same time, so I'm done sooner.
